The Stefansson Arctic Institute recently received a visit from Iceland’s new Senior Arctic Official (SAO), Hlynur Guðjónsson, along with his colleagues in a ministerial contact group for the Arctic.

From the 28th to the 29th of April, Helga Númadóttir at the Stefansson Arctic Institute participated in a two-day workshop for early-career researchers at the Moesgaard Museum, outside Aarhus, Denmark.

On May 7, the University of Akureyri and the Arctic institutions on campus received a visit from the Greenland Representative in Reykjavík, Karsten Peter Jensen.

From 21 to 23 April 2026, the Stefansson Arctic Institute joined research teams from across Europe and beyond in Ponta Delgada (São Miguel, Azores) for the launch events of BiodivTransform, the European Biodiversity Partnership's new joint research call on Biodiversity and Transformative Change.

On April 7-14, Joan Nymand Larsen, together with two co-researchers in the ILLUQ permafrost project conducted fieldwork in Ilulissat, Disko Bay, West Greenland, on the impact of permafrost thaw on cultural ecosystem services.

Thursday May 7th at 13:00, the Head of Greenland Representation in Reykjavik, Karsten Peter Jensen, visits Akureyri to give a lecture at the University of Akureyri, where he reviews the country's political history to the present day.

Last week, an open seminar on search and rescue (SAR) and changing security dynamics in the Arctic was held at the University of Akureyri, focusing on responsibility, surveillance, and security in the Arctic, and the civil–military interface.
