The Kingdom of Denmark’s Arctic Council Chairship 2025-2027 invites individuals and organizations to submit session proposals, abstracts and posters for the Arctic Biodiversity Summit 2027, set to take place in Nuuk, Greenland, on March 16-18, 2027. The summit aims to foster dialogue on Arctic biodiversity among scientists, Indigenous Peoples, policy makers, government officials, students and business representatives, and promote the conservation and sustainable use of Arctic biodiversity.
The University of Akureyri plays a key role in organizing the summit. Tom Barry, Dean of School for Humanities and Social Sciences, is working with Greenland's Ministry for Environment, Nature, Energy and Research, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Business and Mineral Resources, Greenland Institute for Natural Resources, and Aarhus University to coordinate the event.
The summit builds on the Arctic Council's 2021–2030 Strategic Plan and the Actions for Arctic Biodiversity 2025–2035 developed by the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) working group. Funding has been provided by the Danish Ministry of Environment, the Nordic Council of Ministers, and the Velux Foundation.
