The third workshop of the project Enhancing the Role of Arctic Research in Iceland took place at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík on March 11. The University of Akureyri, the University of Iceland, the Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network, and Rannís (the Icelandic Centre for Research) are project partners.
The workshop, which focused on the energy transition and its societal impacts, is the third in a series of four workshops aimed at enhancing dialogue and collaboration within the domestic research community on Arctic issues. The project is funded by the University Collaboration Fund, administered by the Icelandic Ministry of Culture, Innovation, and Higher Education.
The aim of the third workshop was to provide an open forum for discussion on the main challenges and research capacity in Iceland related to the energy transition and its societal impacts, to strengthen scientific collaboration, and to support the participation of Icelandic actors in international competitive funding schemes.
The previous workshops focused on adaptation to climate change, and on ocean research and international scientific cooperation. The fourth and final workshop will address environmental protection and the sustainable use of resources and will take place at the University of Akureyri in September 2026. Further details regarding timing and the programme will be announced later.
