The Institute has a small but growing library (complete collection) specialising in arctic issues with an emphasis on communities and sustainable development. The library is above all intended for the SAI staff and its visiting scholars, but is also open to other interested who can, with special permission, borrow books and other material. First edition of The Friendly Arctic (The Story of Five Years in Polar Regions) by Vilhjalmur Stefansson, published by The Macmillan Company in 1921. Ársæll Árnason published an Icelandic translation in 1938.
